Exciting news from Maureen Mwagale and Kaana
During the last 12 months, I  have been trying to raise £5000 in order to register Kaana as a charity in the UK. This has been a huge challenge as most of the donations were going direct to Uganda as I could not keep money on the account while babies were begging on the streets. But at the same time, we could not apply for funding from the bigger donors as they can only work with charities that have been registered in the UK.

In May this year, we were offered a vast amount of Land in Karamoja to expand our work with the mothers and babies and only then did I realise that we were not able to go forward with the plans unless we had charity status. I was asking God for too many things. I needed to concentrate on one thing at a time. I remembered Philippians 4:6 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God". I did!!!!!

We  went ahead to apply for registration knowing fully well that we did not meet the criteria of having £5000 on our bank account . However I believed that my request was in God’s in tray, and that if we were meant to do God’s work, the Charity commission would overlook the criteria and grant us the status. This was on the 17th June.

Four weeks later, a miracle has happened; Kaana is now a registered Charity in the UK!
I would like to thank all those who believed in Kaana and have supported me over the last two years.  We can now apply for Gift Aid, but even better, apply for bigger funding for the school and community centre in Karamoja. May God’s will be done!!!!

Toybox Town Twinning—Dorsten 21st-29th August
Toybox is one of the charities we support here at St. Andrew’s. Our contact with Toybox, Andy Stockbridge, has sent the following:

‘I am taking part in the Hadrian’s Wall Coast to Coast Cycle challenge this summer from 14-16 August. Its around 150 miles in three days but really what I want to do is raise funds to help street children in Latin America, through Toybox.

If you are able to sponsor me it will be a huge encouragement – and it will make a massive difference to the lives of the children that Toybox helps.

Please take a look at my Just Giving page and any donation is appreciated

http://www.justgiving.com/Andrew-Stockbridge  Or you can go to the Toybox site and donate (or just send a cheque to Toybox)’

There are two remaining places for this year’s trip to Dorsten. The group travels by coach to Dorsten where we are met by mainly English speaking hosts. The week will consist of day trips out to interesting places and joining in with our hosts’ activities; ending with a farewell party! For more information please see Mick James or Frank Baker.

Dragon Boat Race Simon Taylor’s Institution
Service at Busbridge Church Tues. 28th Sept. at 7.30pm.

I am taking part in a Dragon Boat race in aid of St Catherine's Hospice in order to raise money for the great work that is undertaken by them. The race is on 5th September at Knepp Castle, Shipley Near Horsham. Please come along and support me and my team, who are taking part on behalf of the Civil Aviation Authority. Our team is called G-TEAM. If you have not seen Dragon Boat racing before, please go to the link below which will show you what it’s all about.

Simon Taylor’s Institution
Service at Busbridge Church Tues. 28th Sept. at 7.30pm.

Simon Taylor will be leaving Christ the Lord church in Broadfield and moving on to Busbridge. If anyone would like to go to his Institution service please would you let Marilyn Appleby know. Your name will be passed on to the parish office as places need to be booked as the church is quite small and parking is limited. More details to follow.

First Aid Course Calling all Singers! (Especially men)
Jeremy Brown is looking at inviting St. John Ambulance representatives to run a first aid course at one of our churches in the autumn.
This would mean we could get a number of people fully qualified (or re-qualified).  The course is 4 hrs and is relevant to all ages, not just children and youth leaders.

It would be a Saturday morning, probably 9.00am to 1.00pm.
If you feel this would be useful for any church group to which you belong and you would like to do the course, please let Marilyn Appleby know.

Why not come along to the Weald Choir’s rehearsals next term. Guest singers are invited to try out this healthy activity and sing in the next concert. Can’t read music? No problem, as our conductor is giving extra help to several members who are enjoying the demystifying sessions. We shall be singing Vivaldi’s “Gloria” and Mozart’s Coronation Mass, both lovely pieces. Also, on Saturday 25 September there will be a singing workshop lead by a top vocal coach when you will learn how to get the best out of your singing voice. The Weald rehearses on Thursday night at St Richard’s Church. For more information see Chris Ollis or Alison Sharp, or visit www.wealdchoir.co.uk
